Has anyone ever ordered flowers online?
I want to send a plant (not fresh cut flowers) as a gift and want to order it online. (i.e. 1-800-flowers, proflowers, virtual florist, etc.)

Your best bet is to call your local florist, or if you live out of town and need to "wire" flowers to someone, get on the internet and locate a flower shop in that area.
Most if not all flower shops will take an order using your credit card.
Do not make the mistake of putting a middle man (like 1-800) into your final sale, it will only make the costs go up.|||Go to your local florist shop. They can arrange to have a live plant arrangement delivered just the same as they can arrange to have cut flowers delivered.

Why is costco, trader joe's,1-800 flowers, and large corporations trying to overshadow flower shops?
I don't understand why large corporations take advantage of small businesses, all those online "florists" like pro-flowers, blooms.net and 1-800 flowers, rip people off.
I ordered a large arrangement from 1-800 flowers and I didn't get the best quality in flowers, I would rather order from a local flower shop now, especiall y those that are family owned.

Does anyone know if there is an online store where I could purchase flowers to be sent to an APO address?
My sister has several military penpals that are stationed overseas and she cant seem to find a florist that will ship to an APO, or even if it is possible to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated|||The APO addresses are located in the US on the east or west coast. sometimes the mail being sent will sit in that location for a week or more waiting for transport to what ever foreign post her penpals are stationed. The best thing to send is att calling cards. They are rarely available in the px, especially in Iraq. My brother also likes the home made cookins and brownies. My friends and I are developing some scheduling software.
Basically, a customer could go online and schedule a flower order and delivery.
Would this work for a floriest? Why or why not?|||Probably not. I've been a floral designer for a little over 20 years and I don't think I could use this. Things change so quickly in the course of an hour even at a florist, you cannot keep things hard and fast and have to have a good level of flexibility. You might have a handful of orders in the AM and then have family come in to order family funeral work. The funeral work has to come first and the home deliveries then get taken care of afterwards. That is why it is sometimes very difficult to give customers a specific time frame for delivery because there are just too many variables. We can usually promise BY a certain time especially if it is afternoon and someone will only be at work until 3 or something along those lines. But we really cannot be held to a set schedule because of orders that continue to come in, the variability in how long certain things take to make (say comparing a quick vase, compared to a casket spray), when shipments of flowers come in, etc.....
So that is the long answer, short answer is probably not.
It's also a LOT more helpful for us if customers call us instead of ordering online. When they order online, they cannot find out directly from us what flowers we have in the store at that very minute. They might be looking at pictures that have a HUGE assortment of flowers in them and unless we have a couple of days notice (sometimes more) we simply don't have every flower in every shade in stock at all times. When we talk to a customer on the phone, we can go over what is in stock in our store, what is in season, out of season, what looks nicest, etc..... so for me personally, even though I'm a big internet user, I much prefer for customers to call us directly.|||use it for when plants or flowers come in. and rotate stock. try it. online customers are great when ordering flowers from another city. can find you on line .anything that makes you more money than it cost is areal bonus.|||not a new concept.

I am ordering from the UK, online, to be sent to a friend who is studying at Yale, and it's really hard to figure out which floristy is good for fresh flowers, stylish displays and delivery from the websites. What kind of sympathy arrangement to send a male?
My boyfriends grandmother passed this morning. She practically raised him after his own mother died so he is taking this pretty hard. I was wanting to send some flowers to the funeral home. I know he would appreciate having an arrangement sent to him. What sort sympathy arrangement would be appropriate for a male?

I don't think there is any arrangment or flower that a man would not appreciate. There's no such thing as 'male' arrangements or 'female' arrangements. Men love all kinds of flowers too!! White roses and white lilies are popular sympathy flowers but anything is great - it's the thought that counts.
I have one more suggestion: Instead of (or in addition to) sending them now, wait two or three weeks and send the flowers then, with an encouraging note. Bereaved families are flooded with sympathy for the first week or two, then everything suddenly drops off to nothing, the flowers die, the cards stop coming, and the shock has worn off - this is when people need help and sympathy the most, in my opinion.|||I'm sure that anything at all will be appreciated, but for men, I tend to order a plant. Almost every online florist has a selection of plants in their "Sympathy" section. They aren't quite so "girly" and they make a lovely living tribute to a beloved relative.
If possible, find a florist that is local to the funeral and order from there. Most of them have websites and allow you to order online nowadays. My family and I have had very good luck with this method, especially when we are sending flowers to an out-of-state funeral.|||Try sending him an arrangement that you made yourself, with cheese and crackers and canned meats. Flowers in Grocery and at Florist?
Why is that when you buy flowers from local grocery store they are about $10-$15 dozen, and if you wanna buy online/florist they are about $50 and up...what is the difference? or just rip off?|||It's totally OK to buy flowers for a grocery store. They may be a little less fresh than the florists' flowers, but just pull off the wilted petals and put a fresh vertical cut in the stem. Put them in luke warm water and sprinkle a little sugar in the water. They are just as pretty and much less expensive! Buy flowers from the floral department, not the pre-arranged ones throughout the store.|||When you buy on-line, or through a florist, you are paying for the convenience and service of them doing it for you. Grocery stores are cash and carry when it comes to floral items, so the prices are more reasonable.|||When you buy online, more than likely you are also having them delivered. Plus the fact that the internet is a convenient (albeit more expensive) tool. I buy flowers all the time over the internet cause I live far away from my family. It is an option but not always the best choice for people wanting to save money.

Has anyone used ProFlowers or any online florist for wedding flowers?
I've been reading up on their wedding flower collections and am impressed with it. And with so many horror stories I hear from brides about their flowers not coming out exactly how they thought....I'm tempted to go with ProFlowers so that I know exactly what I SHOULD be getting, how much, and what I can do if anything fails.

Now with this caveat clearly stated, I think the real issue here is: do ProFlowers' wedding products satisfy your wedding needs? If they do, then I have to say that ProFlowers does offer a compelling value. But if you need more customized floral products or artistry, you actually don't have many choices: either go to a reputable florist or do it yourself.
As to horror stories, one common mistake some (but not all) florist makes is that they promise too much, i.e., promise way beyond what is realistically possible.
A typical example goes like this: a bride comes in a flower shop with the flower pictures she has pulled from a bridal magazine. She wants her bouquets to be exactly like those. The florist says "No problem."
But in reality, it is not easy to obtain certain flowers with exactly the same color/hue to those pictures. Partly because these pictures are "photo-enhanced" and partly because many of these flower colors are rare. Some florist doesn't want to say that, because of the fear of losing a customer. Personally, I think that over-promise is a form of deception, but it does happen, not just in florists but in many other bridal businesses. Unfortunate, but true.
In the wedding day, the bride is of course disappointed, because the color/hue isn't exactly the one she thought would be. Another "horror" story you mentioned.
By using ProFlowers, at least you can avoid this kind of disappointment. That's because their offering are all common flowers with common colors, so there shouldn't be any procurement problem. For example, take a look at Hydrangea: they offer only two most common colors.
You know that ProFlowers ship flowers by UPS/Fedex, right? Just make sure that someone will be home to receive the flowers and hydrate them as soon as possible.|||I've never heard of them but maybe you can get some company background info as well as some testimonials to help you possibly use the selected florist.

What are you looking for when you are at an online flower shop?
I am an online florist. There are so many online florists around. How can we differentiate ourselves from the others? If you were the online customer, what would you look for (price? design?) at the online flower shop?|||I usually look at whats available in my price range and if they deliver where I want them to go. It would be nice if you had variations of the types of flowers you could send. Like 2 or three different options of the types of flowers in each arrangement. But usually price is the first factor.|||cheap, good selection, reliable, can deliver to my location.|||A florist that let you pick what flowers you want in an arrangement - the average person knows what flowers they want but we only get standard arrangements to chose from online. A customer would be sure of what the recipient will receive that way.

What is the best way to do my own bouquets and also to ensure I have the flowers I need for my wedding?
I am doing my own bouquets and centerpieces for the wedding. I did some trial the other night using flowers bought from the grocery store, and they turned out great; however, my wedding is not until July 4th, and I would like to ensure I can get the inexpensive flowers I need ON THE DATE I need them. I'm in Michigan and went through a company called Horrocks. They are a produce store. They even made it so the roses were "left out" and in full bloom. Your grocery store could probably work with a wholesaler and get them delivered. They did make the bouquets. On site delivery was $12 and we spent $700 out the door, this included everything......centerpieces, bouquets, coursages etc. You can email me privately for pix.
I would go locally rather than online. I've had some really bad experiences with some online retailers.|||Why not go to Michael's and get silk flowers for everything you need. You can even do yours in silk and they are georgous. But, if you want, do yours in real. A florist can do a bridal boquet very resonable. Depending on the grocery store is not a good idea as you don't know what they will have in stock or their delivery status to depend on.|||I am also getting married in July (28) and my flowers, center pieces and head table flowers are all completely done. We were trying to think of ways to save money and we deceided to go with silk flowers. We bought them at places like AC Moore %26amp; Walmart. And the best thing about it all is I get to keep them forever. If you choose your flowers wisely you'll never know they are fake. And you can do them now and put them away until the wedding. This worked for me because I have one less thing I needed to worry about. The only flowers I need now are for the gentleman, my mother grandmothers etc. . and I'm getting them for an awesome price at Price Chopper. What should I do about this wedding vendor/florist??
I had an appt with a florist to discuss my wedding flowers. I had gone on their www site and selected various FTD arrangments, I read the substitution policy and was cool with that... I made a list of everything I needed the prices on the web/etc.. I even had pages printed off their www site showing the exact bouquet, etc... and the flowers used/etc.... and the price. So I get there and one of the employees tells me that they don't have to honor the prices on the www site that those are just a guideline... I was like um... what do you mean the prices is right there, there is even a place you can order the item online... insert a credit card #. The woman was a bit confused (I even pointed where it had their name on the www site/and www site address).... Another woman who claims she's the owner came over and screamed at me that they will not honor these prices that she pays her designers $20/hr and that this is stealing (to honor the prices she has on her www site)...|||Did you sign a contract with them? I certainly hope not.
If you didn't sign a contract, you have no problem. Find another reputable florist. Ask your friends, family members, and coworkers for recommendations.

If it says on their website that they DO honor the prices then they must. If however it doesnt say that then they may be in the right. You can still report them for their customer service. I would find a new florist ASAP.|||Call FTD again, report what was said at the meeting. Then call the BBB and report unfair business practices.

But, if you are actually viewing a FTD arrangement, call around to other shops to see if you can get that price. Though most company's prices are cheaper online than in-store orders.

I need help with possible ideas for flower marketing?
I'm running a florist and the bussiness is doing pretty good. We depend greatly on the internet for online orders and such. I'm trying to think ahead to where we don't have to rely on it so much. I'm trying to open accounts with big coporate offices and try to live of of those accounts. I'm looking for other potential accounts and do not know where to look. Or if there are any other better suggestion on marketing, it'd be really appreciated. Please help me out.|||Now just why the heck would big companies choose to do business with you in the first place? They do not need flowers. They could use them for some special occassions- but if you start calling and selling for that purpose, #1 what other things could you be doing that might be better for you and #2 are you prepared to deal with the massive inventory shifts that come with corporate orders?

Upon considering everything, I have decided that ordering wholesale flowers online will be cheaper than consulting a florist to do all the work. I love to DIY, so I have decided that I will work on creating some of the arrangements for my wedding ceremony. What would be a good website to order wholesale flowers online? Also....when is your wedding? What time of year? My son's was in the summer and we have an air conditioned house, so it all worked out. They caution you NOT to put the flowers into regular refrigerators.....just keep them cool. Also, since these are fresh flowers, you will need to have them delivered 2 days before the wedding....then do all the arrangements, bouquets, boutonnieres the day BEFORE your wedding. It it LOTS of work! But, again, well worth it also!
I ordered 250 roses, which would have cost me $1,000 and I only paid (in 2006) $160!! Cheap! I did not do up bouquets, etc. I only used them for table arrangements for the rehearsal dinner, reception, church, cake table, etc.

Where to get a custom flower arrangement?
I'm not going for looks so much, but as thought behind it as these are her favorite flowers, and from any of the online flower places (1800, ftd, etc) they are only sold as pre-set arrangements. These are more professional photographers that might show up with an assistant or a second shooter and might dazzle you with their post production. $5,000 to $10,000 is stepping in the realm of luxury. You can expect two professional shooters, and a really nice leather bound album. Note that a really good quality album can run anywhere from $500 to $5,000 (cost), multiply that by 3 and you have what you pay for it. Then there are the $10,000 to $30,000 photographers. These people shoot with digital medium format cameras and will have an entire staff working the wedding.
I'm also getting married and am finding it tough to find a photographer I trust. You might want to put an ad on Craigslist asking for samples and giving people a budget that you have set aside for a photographer. Be very cautious about working with someone who will work for less than $1,000 as they probably cannot guaranty consistently good results. You may also want to check in with a photography store like Penn Camera (not Ritz) and see if they can refer someone to you. If not, check with B%26amp;H in NY as they are the largest distributor of photograhy equipment and are bound to have some names for you.

Note that a really good quality album can run anywhere from $500 to $5,000 (cost), multiply that by 3 and you have what you pay for it. Then there are the $10,000 to $30,000 photographers. These people shoot with digital medium format cameras and will have an entire staff working the wedding.
I'm also getting married and am finding it tough to find a photographer I trust. You might want to put an ad on Craigslist asking for samples and giving people a budget that you have set aside for a photographer. Be very cautious about working with someone who will work for less than $1,000 as they probably cannot guaranty consistently good results. You may also want to check in with a photography store like Penn Camera (not Ritz) and see if they can refer someone to you. If not, check with B%26amp;H in NY as they are the largest distributor of photograhy equipment and are bound to have some names for you.

the search engine allows you to search by county. I would suggest that you meet with your photographer and florist first and see their portfolio. if you find someone you like but they are too expensive, tell them. the photographer I loved was way too expensive, so he recommended someone he knew that did great work but she was just starting out and didn't have any clients yet. If they simply drop their price, they probably arent doing much business... big red flag
